Dynamic features and driving mechanism of coal consumption for Guangdong province in China

Guangdong Province, as one of China’s fast-developing regions, an important manufacturing base, and the national first round low-carbon pilots, still faces many challenges in controlling its total energy consumption. Coal dominates Guangdong’s consumption remains major source CO2. Previous research on factors influencing has lacked a systematic analysis both from supply side (factors related to scale, structure, technologies) demand (investment, consumption, trade). This paper develops logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) method that focuses structural decomposition (SDA) systematically identify key driving coal Guangdong. Results are follows: (1) Supply indicates economic growth always been most factor growth, while intensity is constraining factor. Industrial structure have different impacts control during development phases. (2) Demand consumed mainly for international exports, inter-provincial fixed capital formation, urban household. (3) Industries with fastest driven by final experienced significant shifts. Increments industrial sectors were exports household recent years. (4) Research subnational regions under new pattern “dual circulation” should not only focus context globalization but also pay more attention background strengthened interregional connections.
